I find it outright amazing that so many people rely on the entertainment industry for their views on politics, religion, and the like. If you think about it, actors – for the most part, are not noted for their intellect. True, they can “act” superbly, but that is memorizing some lines and utilizing their imagination to portray the part. Folks – that ain’t brain surgery. The same goes for musicians as well. These are all people who use imagination and artistic qualities, of which are greater than most, to express themselves in a way that is very beautiful. However, that should be as far as it goes.
Let’s take economics for example: If you want to learn about economics, the most reasonable thing to do is to ask one who is an economist. Why do we listen to an actor that makes 10 million a year and who has never had a budget much less has never studied the laws of economics? It is sick thinking.
How can anybody have an opinion on Iraq and its people if one has never lived there or took the time to speak to its people? I hear so many people that are passionate about such topics but are not educated themselves enough to form an honest opinion. No, they rely on what they have heard. An over stimulated opinion of actors and “news”. What about the freedom that so many Iraqis are experiencing? What abut the schools, facilities and other buildings that are being built because of Americans? No they insist on listening to the news never once talking to a serviceman who has been there.
Yup, it is a rant that is inside my head. Go figure.
Exposing Myself on a Regular Basis
“All this is flashy rhetoric about loving you. I never had a selfless thought since I was born. I am mercenary and self-seeking through and through: I want God, you, all friends, merely to serve my turn. Peace, re-assurance, pleasure, are the goals I seek, I cannot crawl one inch outside my proper skin: I talk of love -a scholar's parrot may talk Greek- But, self-imprisoned, always end where I begin." - C S Lewis
